5 Reasons Your "Hishab" is Leaking Money

Read it below, or save it for later.

#01The 'Mental Hishab' Trap

You pull 500 Taka from the till to pay a supplier for tea/snacks, but forget to write it down. You think 'I will remember'. You won't. Small unidentified expenses account for 5-8% of lost margin in small shops.

Simple Fix: Keep a 'Petty Cash' notebook next to the drawer. Nothing leaves the drawer without ink hitting paper.

#02The 'Baki' Black Hole

You sell 5000 Taka on credit. You write it in the customer's page. But you don't subtract it from your daily sales total. You think you made profit today, but you actually have no cash. You buy more stock, and suddenly you can't pay rent.

Simple Fix: Separate 'Cash Sales' and 'Credit Sales' in your daily log. Only count Cash Sales as money you can spend.

#03Ghost Inventory (Churi/Loss)

Your book says you have 100 Coke bottles. You actually have 92. Where did 8 go? Staff drinking? Breaking? Wrong delivery? If you don't count, you don't know.

Simple Fix: Do a 'Spot Check' every Friday. Pick just ONE item (e.g., Coke) and physically count it. If it doesn't match the book, investigate immediately.

#04Pricing Memory Loss

Supplier raised the price of rice by 2 Taka. Your staff forgets and sells it at the old price. You just lost your entire profit margin on that bag.

Simple Fix: Never rely on memory. Every item on the shelf must have a sticker or a tag with the selling price.

#05Stocking 'Feeling' vs 'Fact'

You 'feel' like detergent sells well, so you buy 50 cartons. It sits there for 6 months. That money is dead. Meanwhile, you ran out of sugar in 2 days.

Simple Fix: Look at your purchase book. If you haven't bought an item in 3 months, stop stocking it. It's a museum piece, not inventory.
